Guru Amubi remembered

Imphal, June 30 2011: The Manipuri Jagoi Marup remembered Guru Padamashree Maisnam Amubi Singh on his 39th death anniversary yesterday June 29th at a solemn function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy auditorium, Imphal.

A one day festival of Classical Manipuri Solo Dance Festival, floral tributes to the portrait of Guru Amubi marked the observation.

Six renowned dancers namely Rajkumari Pushpa, N Amusana, A Raseswori, W Lokendrajit, A Lakshmi and Th Ibemubi presented solo numbers composed by Late Guru Amubi.

The observance and the solo dance festival was graced by the Secretary of the Manipur State Kala Akademi as Chief Guest while Padashree RK Achouibisana and Pradhan Guru of the JNMDA Ph Iboton graced the occasion as President and Guest of Honour respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the VIPs recalled the great contribution made by late Padamashree Guru Amubi for the cause of Manipuri Dance.The Chief Guest also assured to help the Manipuri Jagoi Marup from his side.

Founder of the Manipuri Jagoi Marup and pioneer of Manipuri Solo Dance Padamashree Guru Amubi also took lessons on Martial Arts from various Gurus.

In 1954 when JN Manipur Dance Academy was established Guru Amubi became its first Supervisor.

It may be mentioned that Manipuri Jagoi Marup, established in 1963, has given more than 7000 cultural performances all over the country and over a dozen countries on special invitations.
