Villagers flee after chief threatens dire consequences

Villagers from the areas of Vengai range under Tipaimukh Constituency namely Phulpui, Patpuihmun and Thingpuikuol have fled their villages after the village chief allegedly threatened them with dire consequences for voting for the BJP party.
Speaking to media persons at Langol, a villager of Thingpuikuol, Fimtouthang said that his village chief was one Bulla, brother of Congress candidate Chaltonlien Amo.
According to him, the village chief had warned the villagers against voting for BJP saying that the party is anti-Christian and threatened that those who cast their votes for BJP would not be allowed to reside in the village.
He said, "The village chief said that those who broke the rule cannot eat the village produce nor farm in the village's fields " .
Fimtouthang appealed to the State Government to take up necessary action against the village chief claiming that he even warned the villagers against complaining to anyone.
He also said that the villagers wish for a repoll.
Speaking at the meet, Tipaimukh Constituency BJP observer during the election, Lalmingthang Sartuinek said, "There was no respect for the people's right to vote during the recent Assembly election.
The CCTVs inside the polling stations were also turned off after only five minutes into the polls.
We complained thrice but no action was taken against such unfair practices" .
He also urged the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
