Ukhrul District Autonomous Council (UADC) has drawn the immediate attention of the State Government to revamp the pathetic Ukhrul District Hospital at Hungpung.

The shortage of manpower inclusive of specialist, doctors and paramedical apart from untold problem including lack of blood bank, equipments, water and electricity facilities, are some of the major issues experienced in the hospital, although the 50 bedded District Hospital was commissioned in 2016.A team of Ukhrul UADC members led by Vice chairman M Isaac accompanied by EMs Khayinghor, Ngamsung, Somimayar and spoke person Paothing Vashum visited the lone District Hospital to establish the detailed reports of the hospital.
The UADC appreciated the Chief Minister's keen interest to develop hills and valley in the same manner, however, he lamented that lack of improvement in health sectors would render such effort moot.
According to their findings, out of the 39 sanctioned post, only 25 staff were posted.
The lone Ukhrul District Hospital has been functioning without anaesthetist, paediatrician, surgeon, orthopaedics, Radiologist, Matron, nursing sister, steward, Pharmacist Allopathy, central sterilization, radiographer and laboratory Asst for many years.
The shortage of doctor and specialists has added much to the woes of the people of the district and most of patients with critical problem were referred to other hospitals.
Over 30 patients were registered daily in the hospital for medical consultation and treatment, however, due to insufficient staff, a single doctor has to work double time and multiple emergency cases, such as delivery or other cases, become difficult to handle.
Spokesperson of UADC Paothing Vashum, said that some portion of the district have already developed cracks due to the recent earthquake.
Meanwhile, the problem of electricity and water at staffs quarter, besides high rent charge (Rs 3000-5000), were highlighted to the team during the visit.
The UADC team, after hearing the problem and grievances on the difficulties of the district hospital, urged the medical staff concerned to be stationed at the hospital while assuring that the matter would be highlighted to the Health Minister as well as the CM so that the condition of the hospital is improved at the earliest.
