Court orders release of arrested Havildar

Imphal, December 31 2019: Special Judge, NIA, Manipur, yesterday, passed an order directing Nellikattil Podiyan Damodaran to be released upon execution of a PR Bond of Rs 1 lakh with two sureties, in connection with the arms missing case of 2nd Manipur Rifle Arms Kote.

The order was passed in connection with a bail application which was filed by Nellikattil Podiyan Damodaran (60) s/o (L) Podiyan, a resident of Ommulur village, Pathanam Thitta District, Kerala (presently residing at 2nd MR Battalion, Manipur Rifles Family Line).

During the hearing yesterday, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the petitioner (Nellikattil Podiyan Damodaran) is a Havildar of 2nd Battalion, Manipur Rifles, and he was arrested on March 30 last year in connection with the case.

He has been in judicial custody for more than 18 months, the counsel informed maintaining that the allegations levelled against the petitioner is that he was involved in the loss of pistols belonging to the 2nd Battalion Manipur Rifles .
