SBI promoting digital banking satisfactorily

The State Bank of India has launched many initiatives and methods to ease the process of banking as well as promoting digital banking in the State.
Speaking to The Sangai Express at his office at Babupara today, Kamal Khanal, Regional Manager of SBI Regional Business Office, Imphal, said that in view of the Government's drive for less cash economy by migrating customers and transaction to digital channels, SBI has been actively promoting digital banking in Manipur.
He explained that SBI launched Yono all in one app on November 24 this year providing banking, investments, shopping and many more facilities.
The Regional Manager informed that with the launch of the app, instant and paper-less savings accounts opening has been introduced and explained that this facility provides a convenient account opening experience where a new customer can open an instant savings account by just downloading and registering on the app.
Kamal Khanal said that as of September this year, SBI branches in Manipur opened 12181 instant and digital savings accounts, which is the highest in the entire North East.
This account opening facility is currently under further development to incorporate the Supreme Court ruling on use of Aadhaar card, he said adding that the facility will be available again to the customers very soon.
The Regional Manager continued that SBI has been actively, promoting paper-less cash transaction for some time now and added that SBI introduced Green Channel Counters (GCC) and Green Remit Card (GRC).
SBI has successfully migrated 90 percent of its customers' cash transaction to this safe and convenient platform, he added.
The Regional Manager further informed that customers can now avoid the hassles of applying for personal loans with Yono app.
Pointing out that the facility was initiated from December 27 in Manipur, he said that personal loans upto Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and pension loans upto Rs 2.5 lakh can now be availed by the SBI customers without any documents.
He also appealed to all the customers to take advantage of the convenient loan application service introduced by SBI through Yono app.
Kamal continued that in its endeavour to help big and small merchants migrate to digital banking, SBI has enabled 973 merchant establishments with Point Of Sale (POS) terminals and 1743 small retailers and shop keepers with Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) in Manipur.
He then explained many of the achievements of SBI in Manipur like opening of 12,181 digital savings accounts (since the launch of Yono app) out of which 10,803 have internet banking facilities, opening of 16,688 savings accounts this year, opening of 2,62,429 basic savings accounts under financial inclusion.
A total of 9,09,921 paperless cash transactions (Green Channel) have been carried out, 17,589 haye registered for Yono app since its launch and there are a total of 60,458 registered internet banking users.
SBI Manipur region has also received many awards and accolades in digital banking including Best Region/State in Digital Account Opening 2018-19 and Best Region/State in Green Channel Banking PAN India 2017-18 and 2018-19, he added.
When asked about the new initiatives that SBI is likely to implement in the State in the future, he said that SBI will do all that is possible for the welfare of the people from time to time.
