Nearly 6500 FIRs filed under CCTNS

Manipur police have filed 6500 FIRs under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), a project of e-governance mission mode of the Ministry of Home Affairs, India.
According to information received by The Sangai Express, the project, which is fully funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, was laun-ched in Manipur in August 20, 2014 .
The project makes it easier for crime and criminal records of the Manipur police stations to be shared or exchanged with police stations of other States, as well as ensure transparency regarding the criminal cases taken up by Manipur Police as well as other works.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned Rs 15.69 crore for the project till date, the source added.
The source pointed out that there are 101 police stations in the State and CCTNS software has been installed at all the said police stations.
However, only 63 percent of the total police station in the State, or only 64 of the total 101 police stations, have mobile connectivity facilities resulting in the failure to take full benefit of the CCTNS software, the source conveyed.
7331 police personnel, out of 8065 target police personnel, have been given the requisite CCTNS training till date.
The source explained that Rs 12.30 crore, or 78 percent, of the total Rs 15.69 crore sanctioned by the Ministry has been utilised so far.
In 2014, when the project was launched in the State, Manipur police registered 365 FIRs.
In 2015, Manipur police registered 1870 FIRs and 1394 FIRs in 2016 .
For the current year, 2017, Manipur police have registered 2869 FIRs, the source stated adding that a total of 6494 FIRs have been filed by the State police under the e-governance mission mode.
70 percent of the these FIRs have been digitised, the source added.
