Kakching, December 30 2021: Village Water & Sanitation Committee, Irengband has appealed to the public especially those residing along/near Irum river to provide their assistance in keeping Irum river, the main water source of Irengband Water Supply Scheme clean and safe for public use.

A public rally on the theme "Save Irum River" was conducted on December 19 followed by a meeting presided by M Romen, up-Pradhan Irengband GP to chalk all plans on the matter, said a release issued by Village Water & Sanitation Committee, Irengband.

As per the resolutions taken at the meeting, the committee has appealed to the public to remove the waste materials deposited/gathered and vegetables planted at the banks of Irum river before January 15, 2022 .

The committee also urged all concerned to not release ducks at the river and re- move the plantation of vegetables using fishing nets.

It may be mentioned that the meeting was attended by members of Irengband GP, CCDU, PHED Director, Block Development Officer, Kakching CD Block, EE Kakching PHE Division and team leader of ADAM Kakching, implementation support agency of Jal Jeevan Mission, Kakching District.

The Committee further cautioned that legal actions would be initiated against any violators.
