Imphal Literature Festival held

Imphal, December 29 2024:
Sahitya Thoupang Lup organised the annual Imphal Literature Festival at the auditorium of State Central Library, Keishampat on Sunday.
It was graced by Laishram Radhakanta Singh, Director, Language, Planning & Implementation, Government of Maniput and Prof N Aruna, former Dean, School of Humanities, Manipur University as the chief guest & president respectively.
The festival began with an introductory speech by Tongbram Amarjit, president of Sahitya Thoupang Lup.
Speaking on the occasion, Sathou Lup advisor Saratchand Thiyam said that Manipur has a rich repository of traditions, arts and literature.
Stating that literature & performing arts play an important role in resolving various issues plaguing the society, he said, "Literature & performing arts are the mirror of the society, reflecting the good and bad of the society as seen and intercepted by the creative imagination of the authors/artists".
Saratchand Thiyam also shared that since 2013, Imphal Literature Festival has been organised every year to provide a platform for writers to cross the barriers of language and script, and appreciate the immense variety and complexity of the country's literary heritage.
N Nando, research scholar of Manipur University, also spoke on the topic, "A perspective on the writings of young Manipuri".
Later, eminent poet Chongtham Ongbi Subadani chaired a poetry recitation session wherein over 40 poets read their poems.
Two books titled "Pon" written by N Shreth Chongtham and "The Vale of Verse" by Wangthoi Khuman were also released during the event.
