Amid conflict, PIMMSAA emerges as ray of hope for displaced victims

Imphal, November 29 2023: Amidst the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, PIMMSAA (Pan India Manipuri Meitei Scientists and Academicians Association), has emerged as a life-supporting group and a ray of hope for the conflict victims especially children and women seeking refuge in various relief camps across the Imphal valley.

A release issued by PIMMSAA informed that the association was virtually established on July 16, 2023 with the initiative of Dr Lairenlakpam Robindro, Senior Principal Scientist in CSIR, to help and empower the victims and their families economically, socially & morally.

PIMMSAA is a non-political, non-profit and philanthropic group of scientists and academicians.

Since August 2023, the association has provided many essential relief materials to the victims, especially children & women, staying at 20 relief camps.

The association mainly focuses on strengthening the education sector and career guidance for school children and youths.

It has also provided financial support to some of the students studying at Bangalore, Delhi and Chandigarh.

PIMMSAA collaborates with Dr Kaito's Twitter Group and volunteers team for the relief works.

In continuation of its relief works, as an experimental Pilot Project under the Sustainable Livelihood Mission, PIMMSAA is presently focusing on providing looms and sewing machines to selected victim weavers.

The association has provided 1 loom at Urup relief camp; 2 looms, 2 tareng along with accessories, 15 kg of 2-ply yam, 10 kg of 4-ply wool yarn to the relief camp opened at Sanatombi Hr Sec School, Keirak.

On November 23, 2023, they provided 3 looms, 3 tarengs, 30 kg of 2-ply yarn, 15kg of 4-ply wool yarn to the victim weavers in Kakching Khunou.

On November 25, two looms, 2 tarengs, 10 kg yarn and 1 sewing machine were provided to the victim weavers staying at KP College, Hiyangthang.

So far, PIMMSAA and Kaito's group have jointly distributed relief materials including 1500 school bags, 1500 stationery sets, 1000 shoes, 5 truckloads of food items, 10 sewing machines, 12 looms & 12 tarengs for IDP weavers, 100 kg wool yarn and 45 kg 2-ply yarn, 800 kg of used clothes at 20 relief camps.

PIMMSAA further extended its gratitude to all the members, generous donors and volunteers for their continuous support & sacrifices and urged the State Government to do more humanitarian activities at the remote foothills and affected areas.
