Imphal, November 29 2012:
Taking strong exception to the report physical assault on Jiribam FCI depot in-charge by two personnel of 22nd Assam Rifles, FCI Staff Welfare Association has threatened to launch pen-down strike from December 2 which would be followed by more intense forms of agitation in case no befitting action is initiated against the two accused.
Depot in-charge A Khomei was asked to give a goat which was then let loose by two personnel of 22nd AR posted at Jiribam railway station on November 26 .
Khomei replied that he could not give away the goat as it did not belong to him.
This enraged the AR personnel and they started raining blows on Khomei and two Home Guards.
The AR personnel thrashed Khomei with a shovel.
Even as FCI officials have filed complaints at Jiribam PS and Porompat PS in connection with the incident of physical assault, police are yet to initiate any action.
After the incident, Assam Rifles prevented FCI officials from entering railway goods shed.
As such, Jiribam FCI office and godown remained shut till date.
Taking serious note of the incident and subsequent developments, a meeting of the FCI Staff Welfare Association was held at FCI Yaiskul office today.
The meeting resolved that AR authority should take up befitting action against the two accused personnel by December 1 and a written assurance should be given to FCI declaring that no such incidents would be allowed to happen again.
If these demands are not fulfilled, pen-down strike would be launched from December 2 which would be followed more intense forms of agitation, the meeting resolved.
With the Jiribam FCI office and godown kept locked, more than 200 trucks remained stranded unable to load PDS items for which they left Imphal with security escorts.
As the security escorts too remained stranded, other loaded trucks have been stranded together with the empty trucks.
