Imphal, October 29 2024: In line with the agreement reached with the JAC Against Unnatural Death of Bashanti and her daughter Lanchenbi on October 27, the District Magistrate, Imphal West has issued an order to conduct a Magisterial Inquiry .

The Inquiry will probe the circumstances surrounding the death of Ningombam (N) Adhikarimayum (O) Bashanti Devi (48 years old), a widow and her minor daughter, Adhikarimayum Lanchenbi Devi (4 years old) of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Imphal West.

A notification issued by District Magistrate, Imphal West set the terms of reference of the enquiry by ascertaining the facts and circumstances leading to the fatal incident, investigate the compelling facts and circumstances leading to the incident above and suggest remedial measures to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

The notification further stated that it has decided to conduct the enquiry at the Court room of the District Magistrate, Imphal West, Lamphelpat and any person(s) willing/desirous to give oral evidence or produce any material/documents before the Enquiry officer in connection with the enquiry, is/are requested to submit his/her particulars in plain paper addressed to the District Magistrate, Imphal West by providing the following details - the full name along with the name of the father and mother (in block letters), full address at which the person will be available if notice is served, age, occupation and circumstances prompting the person to give the evidence.

The particulars must be submitted to the office of the District Magistrate, Imphal West on or before November 8, 2024 during office hours.

Meanwhile, the JAC against the Unnatural Death of Bashanti and Lanchenbi in a release said that, it will pay tribute to the mother and daughter on October 31, 2024 at Haoreibi Kangjeibung Mapal Community Hall.

A meeting will also be convened on the same day to discuss/deliberate the ways to curb crime against women and children.
