Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningshing Lup (PUMANIL) observed Dark Day in commemoration of the 283rd anniversary of burning of Puyas (ancient chronicles) at the auditorium of Youth Centre, Khuman Lampak today.
ACOAM Lup president Ksh Somorendro, Manipur Pandit Loishang Pana Pandit Lai Loken, KANGLAMEI president Y Leirik Leima, Kanglei Ima Lup president RK Sanahanbi, CLK chief advisor A Langdon Leima, Panthoibi Sindam Shanglen president L Dhananjoy Mangang, UCM consultative member H Ibotombi Khuman, MMRC Khangabok chairman Ksh Menjor Mangang, DDK Imphal Programme Executive Manibabu Likmabam, former president of Mao Union, Dr Loli Mao and Filson Y Lunghar of MADC attended the function as presidium members.
In his keynote address, PUMANIL convenor Chandramani said that the day was observed to protest burning of Puyas 283 years back.
The day would be ever remembered as a dark day in the history of Manipur, he said.
Disposal of these ancient chronicles was a major reason for the increasing divide being witnessed between hill and valley people of Manipur, he observed.
After Puyas were consigned to flames, Meiteis were forcefully converted to Hinduism while hill people embraced Christianity that gradually led to increase of rift between hill and valley people, he said.
As such, people of the State must not forget that 'outsiders' have been spreading hatred and causing disunity among people of different communities, he observed.
