Caseload crosses 8K, testing capacity improves; positivity rate rising

Imphal, May 29 2021: For the first time, the single day spike of new Covid-19 positive cases crossed the 1000-mark on Saturday as government bulletins reported 1007 new cases along with 15 fatalities.

With the addition of 1007 new cases, the caseload of the state has reached 8030 with 4609 of the patients recuperating in home isolation and the remaining 3421 undergoing treatment in healthcare facilities including district hospitals and Covid Care Centres.

The state is seeing significant improvement in the daily test capacity in the last few days.

However, the positivity rate too continues to escalate hinting at failure in the containment measures taken up by the government, especially on the enforcement front.

So far, 20,662 positive cases and 421 death cases have been reported since the beginning of the year while the current month recorded 17,264 new cases and 371 fatalities.

The last seven days reported 5528 new cases and 102 fatalities.

The 15 fatalities reported on Saturday included a 75-year old male (Bpr), a 54-year old male (Ukl), a 40-year old male (IW), a 55-year old male (IW), a 48-year old male (IW), a 75-year old male (IW), a 75-year old female (IW), a 40-year old male (Tbl), a 77-year old male (IW), a 41-year old male (Tbl), a 50-year old male (IE), a 35-year old male (IE), a 45-year old female (IE), a 57-year old male (IE) and an 85-year old male (IE) who died at CCC Bishnupur (1), DH Ukhrul (1), Shija Hospitals (1), RIMS (6) and JNIMS (6) hospital respectively.

The cumulative number of deaths is 776 .

According to official reports, the 1007 new cases included 1006 people (535 male & 471 female) from among the general and one Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) jawan.

Their samples were tested at RIMS (65), JNIMS (80), District Hospitals (506) and other private testing centres (356).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (237), Imphal West (358), Thoubal (98), Bishnupur (63), Kakching (63), Ukhrul (9), Churachandpur (91), Chandel (4), Senapati (8), Tamenglong (37), Tengnoupal (6), Kangpokpi (3), Jiribam (4), Kamjong (10), Noney (3) and Pherzawl (12).It is said that all necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the last 24 hours, 564 patients were discharged from CAPF (22), home isolation (451), RIMS (6), JNIMS (8), BB (13), NSU (8), SHRI (10), RD Wing (3), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (14), Jivan Hospital (3), RAJMED (2), Thoubal (2), Bishnupur (5), Kakching (4), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (5) and Tengnoupal (4).The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 48,850 (general population - 45,098 and CAPF personnel - 3,752).Number of recovered cases is 40,044 (general population - 36,349 and CAPF personnel - 3,695) and number of active cases is 8,030 (general population - 7,978 and CAPF personnel - 52) .

The recovery rate is 81.97 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 1355 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 651 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities.

District Hospital and government institutions have 309D, 92B type filled cylinders and district wise allocations are Bishnupur (11D,14B), Chandel (17D,4B), Churachandpur (66D,0B), Thoubal (67D,22B), Ukhrul (24,7B), Jiribam (20D,10B), Moreh (20D,6B), Kamjong (3D,1B), Kakching (9D,12B), Kangpokpi (5D,1B), Pherzawl (4D,3B), Noney (2D,0B), Tamenglong (19D,12B), Senapati (42D,0B).As of Friday, 3,75,518 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and out of them 80,061 have received the second dose.

Meanwhile, 42 new positive cases were detected during RAT conducted in Kakching district on Saturday.

All of them are residents of Kakching district and 25 of them were detected at government RAT centre while the remaining 17 confirmed at Jivan Hospital.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (17,587), Imphal East (11,273), Thoubal (3543), Churachandpur (3458), Kangpokpi (1434), Tamenglong (1752), Bishnupur (2650), Senapati (1172), Ukhrul (1114), Kakching (2103), Chandel (853), Noney (505), Tengnoupal (505), Jiribam (437), Kamjong (390), and Pherzawl (74) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (297), Imphal East (203), Thoubal (76), Churachandpur (56), Kangpokpi (20), Tamenglong (8), Bishnupur (51), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (10), Kakching (31), Chandel (12), Noney (1), Tengnoupal (3), Jiribam (1), Kamjong (3) and Pherzawl (0) .

However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs of some districts.

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 15,743 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 20,026 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 2,27,646 tests per million population against the national average of 2,45,010 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.59 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 4900 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 20.55 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate further rises to 6.92 per cent.
