In the backdrop of outcries from cross section of the society over the gangrape of *****, a two-day 'Legal Awareness Programme on Women's right' commenced from today at Hotel Imphal.
The programme organised by Life Care Foundation, thoubal under the aegis of National Commission for Women, New Delhi saw speakers lash out against State security forces for failing to respect the womenfolk.
Referring to news report about two IRB personnel involved in outraging modesty of housewife **** , the speakers opined that if security force personnel indulge in such inhumane act the national security is at great risk for pledge and commitment of the armed forces to safeguard the people is questionable.
In his address, Foundation secretary Th Arunkumar pointed out that out of 167 different incident recorded by the organisation in the past two years, many are cases of atrocities committed against women and the girl child.
Referring to the record, he observed that when a woman dies there is always suspicion on the cause of death such a domestic violence unlike in the past when such a case used to be assumed as natural death.
Manipur State Commission for Women member Majida Khan and Thoubal SDPO Lalboy Haokip were among various resource persons who deliberated on the workshop theme on the inaugural day.
