Awangbow disburses fund for 396 beneficiaries

Water Resources, and Relief & Disaster minister Awangbow Newmai on Thursday distributed financial assistance to 396 beneficiaries under his special scheme for widow, widower, orphan and disabled for the period of May to August 2024 .
The financial assistance in the form of monthly instalments was released during the Tamei Assembly Constituency NPF Get-To-gether-cum-Advent Christmas celebrations held at the minister's Tamei town residence.
Under the special scheme, monetary assistance of Rs 500 per month is entitled to each beneficiary, according to a release issued by the minister's media coordinator Manonbou Newmai.
Speaking on the occasion minister Awangbow explained that the scheme was launched and implemented in 2022 for the well-being of the people of Tamei AC, with special priority on widows, widowers, orphans, and individuals with disabilities.
He conceded despite implementation of various government - sponsored schemes, the same cannot cover all the deserving people, including increasing population of orphans, widowers and widows due to high mortality rate in the absence of proper healthcare facilities and awareness.
To bridge such a gap, the "Awangbow Newmai Special Scheme for widow, widower, orphan and disabled" has been initiated with allocation of fund at the rate of 65 percent of his monthly salary and voluntary donations from supporters and well wishers, the minister informed.
Awangbow also appealed to his workers to provide details of left-out orphans, widows, widowers, and differently abled to ensure their coverage under the said scheme.
He also stressed the importance of ensure that the scheme benefits the deserving and genuine beneficiaries only.
The minister added that the scheme will be implemented till the end of the current term of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The programme was attended by Tamenglong district ADC former chairman Namsinrei Panmei, ex-ADC members and officials and well-wishers of NPF among others.
