Kangpokpi, October 28 2019:
In view of the imminent finalization of the Framework Agreement on October 31 and the political uncertainties prevailing in the state, the Kuki Inpi Manipur reaffirm its standpoint that the Indo-Naga FA should not contravene the aspiration and interests of other stakeholders, Kukis and Meiteis, as was assured by the Government of India.
On the other hand, a protest rally will be carried out in all the Kuki inhabited areas in the hill districts of Manipur on October 30 to coincide with the imminent finalization of the Framework Agreement as a mark of protest against the Central Government failure to address the demands and aspiration of the Kukis.
The protest rally is also to remonstrate against the central Government policy as it has failed to consult major stakeholder and communities violating its own assurance that it will take into account the interests of all the major stakeholder and communities in the state before finalization of FA.
KIM Information and Publicity Secretary, Gouminlun Gangte said that in the backdrop of the Framework Agreement, the Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Kukis of Manipur, has always made it clear that it stands for communal harmony, peaceful coexistence of all communities and justice for all.
He continued that the Kuki Inpi Manipur appreciates the efforts of the Government of India for bringing about a lasting peace in the state of Manipur, however, the GoI must ensure that solution with the NSCN-IM should not be the beginning of another tumultuous period in the state and it should in no uncertain terms not try to appease a certain community at the cost of others.
He also said that appeasement of NSCN-IM, which only represent the interest of the Tangkhul community, will only create strong opposition from the other two communities i.e.the Kukis and Meiteis while urging the Government of India to take into due consideration the views and opinions of the two major communities before any final accord is signed.
"The Kuki Inpi Manipur in its several memoranda submitted earlier to the PM of India had made it very clear that the Framework Agreement or the proposed Naga Autonomous Administrative set up in Manipur should not infringe upon the Kuki inhabited land in the hill districts of Manipur", he asserted before adding that the Kukis had always protected and defended these lands as seen in history as 'Kuki Rising 1917-19 or the Anglo-Kuki War 1917-19', the most formidable war the British had waged in the north east region.
He maintained that the Kuki Inpi Manipur stands for peace and always follows the policy of mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence, however, it will not accept any solution of FA if it is a threat to the political interest of the Kukis.
