Babysana case : Public meet demands SIT probe

Imphal, July 28 2019: A public meeting held today at THAU complex, Thangmeiband under the aegis of the JAC Against the Mysterious Death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu has resolved to urge the State Government to set up an independent special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the death of Babysana while the State Government has been working to hand over the case of CBI.

The meeting was attended by representatives of several CSOs, Meira Paibi groups, student organisations and the Thangmeiband United Club (TUC).

The meeting resolved that a SIT should be set up to probe the case and it should submit a charge sheet within two months.

The public meeting also resolved to expand the JAC by inducting one representative each of CSOs, Meira Paibi groups and student organisations.

The State Government should publish the findings of the investigation done so far into the death of Babysana by 2 pm of July 31, according to another resolution adopted at the meeting.

The public meeting also agreed to constitute a monitoring committee with members from the JAC, CSOs and experts to monitor the investigation being done into the mysterious death of Babysana.

It further resolved to urge the Government to set up a fast track Court to deal with the case of Babysana exclusively.

The last resolution says that Babysana's mortal remains would be claimed in case the Government responds positively to the resolutions adopted today.
