Imphal, September 27 2011:
A one day awareness programme cum record exhibition was organised today by Tangkhul Miyur Art and Culture Society at Laikoi Ching under Senapati district.
Attended by Deputy Director of Manipur State Archives Dr K Sushila and Laikoi Ching village head K Paisho, among others, items/artifacts used by the Tangkhul forefathers were put on display.
The villagers also handed over a memorandum to the Archives' Deputy Director proposing construction of a museum at the village to preserve the antique materials.
Even though the Deputy Director informed Laikoi Ching village representatives that the State Archives Department do not have provision for museum grant and only works on record preservation and conservation, nevertheless assured that the matter would be put up before the Central Government and any new development conveyed to them.
Describing articles displayed at the exhibition as rare and invaluable, K Sushila suggested that recording the items in the form of a book will be helpful to the future generation for an even more comprehensive research work.
While The Sangai Express (Manipuri) columnist Kh Nomita presented a detailed account on the historic relationship between the Tangkhuls and Meiteis, former chairman of Laikoi Ching village AS Kaphung Kui highlighted on the history and origin of Laikoi Ching with another former chairman C Mathotmi deliberating on the custom and culture.
