Imphal, March 26 2018:
The Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) under which loans of up to Rs 10 lakh are given to micro and small enterprises is making little progress in the State.
As such, the State Government has instructed Deputy Commissioners and banks concerned to invest extra efforts, informed a source.
Till December 31 last year, the scheme's progress in the State stood at a dismal 25 per cent.
Taking serious note of the lack of any tangible progress, a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee was held on March 8 and the meeting decided to form district level committees which would be headed by the respective DCs so that MUDRA scheme reaches its target fully.
Other district level officers would also incorporated in the district level committees.
The meeting held on March 8 discussed about opening banking facilities in all blocks where such facilities are still unavailable.

Under PMJDY, 8,83,049 people have opened bank accounts till date.
Out of them, 4,70,468 account holders have been issued RuPay cards of which around 70 per cent have been activated, said the source.
Meanwhile, all banks concerned have been instructed to ensure that RuPay cards which are still lying at banks are delivered to account holders by April 30.MUDRA scheme which was launched on April 18, 2016 has three categories; Shishu, Tarun and Kishor.

Under Tarun category, one can take loans ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh while the maximum amount of loan offered under Kishor category is Rs 10 lakh.
The State Government too has instructed all banks concerned to sanction loans within this year to all applicants who submitted loan applications on or before February 28 this year.
The Government further directed the banks to furnish reasons for rejecting loan applications in black and white, if there is any.
Out of 501 applications received by MAHUD Department for loans under National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), only 60 applications have been sanctioned so far.
The remaining 441 applications are lying at banks, informed the source.
Saying that there are still 27 blocks where there is no bank branch till date, the source conveyed that the State Government has asked all authorities concerned to open bank branches in these blocks by July 1 this year.
Even though bank branches were opened in 10 blocks recently, the bank branches have ceased operations in three blocks namely Joupi (ICICI), Tamei (SBI) and Samulamlan (PNB) .
The Government has directed the banks concerned and DCs to make these branches operational again by March 31.It is said that bricks and mortar bank branches would be opened at all villages where the populations are above 5000 but still do not have any bank branch.
