Poultry birds distributed to beneficiaries of Ukhrul district

'Low input technology poultry bi rds' have been distributed to selected beneficiaries of Ukhrul district at a simple function held today at the Sanjenthong conference hall of Manipur State Veterinary Council.
The poultry birds were provided to the beneficiaries under the Backyard Poultry Farming Scheme of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services.
speaking as the chief guest, Commissioner (Veterinary) L Lakher said a similar scheme launched in the 2007-08 ceased due to unforeseen reasons and the said scheme is being revived with today's distribution function under the objective of facilitating educated unemployed youths take up income generation vocations.
Exhorting the beneficiaries to contribute their mite in the State attaining food self-sufficiency, the Commissioner assured that such a scheme would also cover beneficiaries of all other districts in the near future.
Ukhrul ADC Executive Member Peter Kangkara in his brief comment at the occasion opined that hill areas are highly conducive and productive for poultry farming for meat is a regular menu of people in the hill areas.
