Free medical camp on mental health held at District hospital, Senapati

Senapati, October 25 2019:
A one day free medical camp on mental health was organised by District Mental Health Program (DMHP) in collaboration with District Health Society, Senapati at District hospital, Senapati today.
CMO/Director, DHS Senapati Dr H Loli Mao said that the programme was organised for the first time in the district to raise awareness among the public.
The CMO maintained that the social stigma on mental health present in the society should be eradicated while adding that mental health does not confine to the term "mentally retarded" alone but also to other mental illness.

On the other hand, SNO, NMHP Dr Ranita stated that the key features of the camp were focused on treating anxiety, stress, depression, suicidal tendencies, promoting mental health and raising awareness about it.
She further stated that different signs of mental illness include difficulty in handling day to day activities, feeling anxious worried or stressed most of the time, change in sleeping and eating habits, change in feeling/uncontrolled emotions, addiction to tobacco and alcohol and suicidal thoughts.
Dr Ranita urged all to visit the nearest health care centre for consultation if the person experiences the symptoms severely or frequently while underlining the importance of early treatment.
She further maintained that the State Government is taking necessary steps to reach to areas where health centres, especially for mental health, are absent.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent, DHS Dr Dihe urged all to spread awareness on mental health so that people can come out and avail early treatment.
Clinical psychologist, Pukning Pothasang Lamphel Paveine Paulina along with Dr H Angomacha, one of the senior most psychiatrist of the State and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Mona Nongmeikapam attended the programme.
