Imphal, July 25 2022:
Members of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) on Monday locked the office of the Directorate of University and Higher Education located at Nityaipat Chuthek over their demand to upgrade Dhanamanjuri
University to a full-fledged university.
Interacting with the media, AMSU vice-president Laishram Athouba said that except for the vice-chancellor, the university does not have regular registrar,
controller, teaching and non-teaching staff.
Besides, there are various facilities and infrastructure that are yet to be developed in order to run the university effectively.
In the absence
of non-teaching staff, students are facing difficulties in availing academic documents.
They have submitted several memorandums in this regard but the government is still ignoring their demands, he said.
Amid such situation, the government is planning to set up another university by amalgamating some colleges, which the student community strongly condemn.
The government should do the needful to make DM University a fullfledged university before taking steps to set up another university, he added.
