Church leaders meet for fair poll

With a view to the forthcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, church leaders and village chiefs held a joint discussion to check illegal activities like proxy voting, booth capturing, gun violence etc in the run up and on the day of polling.
The joint discussion held yesterday under the aegis of the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) at Larinkhun community hall in Chandel district also figured the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur.
Addressing the meeting, AMCO president P Vaiphei termed it unfortunate the acts of violence and unlawful activities perpetrated at the time of election.
He decried the acts of proxy voting, booth capturing and intimidation of electorates as witnessed in the State including hill areas.
Saying that believers in Christ should not indulge in falsities in the time of election, the AMCO president stated that no one should interfere in the people's right to vote for the candidate of their choice.
He also strongly advocated against the practice of buying votes with money.
He further exhorted the public to exercise their franchise judiciously away from the influence of muscle power, money power, gun culture etc.
