Another tourist spot in the making

Development and beautification works have been initiated at the historic Salam Pat located at Lamlai in Imphal East district so as to transform Salam Pat as another popular tourist spot.
Development and beautification works are being done at the joint initiative of Lamlai Development Committee, Lamlai Students' Ideal Club, Lamlai Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Ima Imoinu Thougal Thoushil Kanglup, Lamlai.
Apart from providing all the necessary machinery, BJP Manipur Pradesh RTI Cell convenor and social worker Mongjam Poireihanba has been bearing all the expenditures.
Lamlai Development Committee president Yaiphaba Wairokpam said that a water body 1000 feet in length and 200 feet in breadth would be dug in the form of a moat but the existing water body has been shrinking day by day.
After the water body is dug, a garden would be developed within the moat in addition to building a resort in the nearby hillock.
Traditional regatta is held on the existing water body on the occasion of Heikru Hidongba every year.
The new initiative is aimed at preserving the existing water body and at the same develop the area as a popular tourist spot apart from promoting the age old tradition of boat race, Yaiphaba said.
Mongjam Poireihanba said that the work of digging the moat would be completed within a month.
After that, a detailed project report would be submitted to relevant Ministries of the Government of India in order to develop the area as a popular tourist spot.
