Imphal, September 24 2020:
All Tribal Women Organisation (ATWO)- Chandel has strongly condemned the incident where a minor girl of only 3 and a half years was allegedly raped at a village in Moreh Town, recently.
A press release issued by ATWO president Lalam Mate said that CWG received information from a reliable source and from newspapers that the minor girl was 'raped' by a juvenile from the same locality on September 15 at around 5.30 pm and brought to Moreh PHC profusely bleeding at around 6:30 pm.
The PHC Moreh referred the minor girl to RIMS at midnight of the same day after providing normal medication, she said adding that the doctor reported the police about the incident and FIR has been lodged by the Moreh Police Station under POCSO Act.
Claiming that they received information of the case settling with Rs 3.50 lakh under customary law, Lalam Mate said that it is extremely unfortunate for the future generation of Manipur if the allegation is indeed true.
It is high time to stop settling cases of such heinous crimes committed against women and children under local customary laws, this only failed to deliver justice, long term rehabilitation and welfare of the victims, she added.
Appealing to all the Civil Society Organizations, tribe unions, student bodies, religious institutions in Moreh to strongly condemn such an act of brutality to the minor girl, she urged the State Government to ensure the protection of the family members until justice is delivered.
The State Government must also adopt stringent policies to protect women and children from all forms of crimes and violence in future, she added.
