National Service Scheme Day celelebrated

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Day 2017, was celebrated today by the State NSS Cell, Department of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of Manipur at the auditorium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex .
The celebration function was graced by Prof Adya Prasad Pandey,Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University as chief guest, H Deleep Singh, Commissioner (Youth Affairs & Sports) as president, N Praveen Singh, Director, Youth Affairs & Sports, HK Sharma, Regional Director, NSS Guwahati and Dr Keisham Shitaljit Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Manipur University as guests of honour .
The programme began with lighting of inaugural lamp followed by rendition of NSS song by the volunteers .
In his speech, Prof Pandey said that the motto off NSS is 'Not me But You' which signifies my services are for the welfare of the society and added that youth services can be utilised for the welfare of the community, society and for the Nation as a whole .

He said that it is everybody's responsibility to think independently for the betterment of the society .
He urged the NSS volunteers, co-ordinators and programme officers irrespective of caste, creed, colour and language to discharge duty for the communities and adopt a village each and offer services according to the need of the village .
The motto of NSS will be only materialised when the volunteers earn respect from the common people.
NSS volunters should consider themselves as villagers when they are in the village for social service, the Professor stated .
Praveen Singh stated that tapping student’s energy and personality towards community services is the basic aim of NSS which is the longest running scheme of India .
He added that suggestion and cooperation from the people is necessary to make the scheme successful .
Deeleep Singh urged the gathering to meet the goals of "Ek bharat Swachha Bharat" by cleaning water bodies and having the knowledge of environment conservation .
He said that youth should be guided in the direction towards socio-economic development of the society .
HK Sharma appreciated the volunteers of State NSS Cell for their tireless initiative for social service and thanked Vice-Chancellor, MU for his support and cooperation in making Manipur NSS Cell number one position in the North East, .
Leima Jagoi dance, Naga dance and Kuki dance were performed during the function.
Several NSS Programme Officers and volunteers were honoured with Indira Gandhi NSS Award by the dignitaries .
Seiminthang Lenthang, State NSS Officer, Government of Manipur gave the welcome and keynote address while Dr Shitaljit proposed the vote of thanks in the function.
