Imphal, June 24 2021:
DESAM demanded fulfilment of certain conditions before the commencement of the new academic session of colleges.
In a statement issued today, N Edison, president, DESAM, said the student union is raising three problems that need to be addressed before the commencement of the new academic session in the coming months.
The subject-teacher-students ratio in various colleges in the state is ghastly, with teachers outnumbering students in some and students outnumbering teachers by a factor of upto 500 in some colleges.
Such lack of uniformity in the subject-teachers-students ratio is not a good element for proper functioning of the colleges and needs to be addressed as soon as possible, said Edison in the statement.
DESAM also appealed the Government to complete the ongoing recruitment process for Higher Education and also initiate the process for recruitment of regular Principals of Government colleges at the earliest.
The Government should clarify to the public and the students community before June 30 if they will be unable to address these problems, added the statement.
