Bishnupur, January 24 2020:
The return of Congress is a must to save democracy, said All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Gaurav Gogoi Friday.
Speaking at a political interaction programme cum public meeting at Moirang Purit Mandap which was attended by CLP leader and ex-CM O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam and other party leaders, the AICC general secretary alleged that democracy is being attacked under the BJP led rule.
His statement came amidst police crackdown on protesters against CAA, NRC and NPR and the recent Supreme Court's direction on the Anti-Defection law relating to Congress elected MLA Shyamkumar joining the BJP to become Forest Minister.

The Supreme Court had directed the Manipur Legislative Assembly to decide on Shyamkumar's disqualification under the Anti-Defection law within four weeks.
Gaurav Gogoi also accused the BJP led Narendra Modi Government of favouring only the rich and asserted that "people know well whether it is the BJP leaders in the Centre or in Manipur, they are more interested in publicity and advertisement.
"There won't be peace as long as there is BJP Government.
For peace to prevail and save democracy, Congress should return," he said.
Ex-CM O Ibobi also launched a sharp attack on the BJP and said that the party will never be weakened even when those who were elected on the party's ticket join other parties.
Accusing the Assembly Speaker of sitting on the Anti-Defection law relating to Shyamkumar, he said that the Supreme Court order has unmasked the BJP 'fooling the people'.
He also accused the Government of behaving like a 'dictator' and said that "time has come for people to teach the Government a lesson" .
The programme organised by Moirang Block Congress Committee was also attended by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president M Okendro, ex-Minister Kh Ratankumar Singh, ex-Minister I Hemochandra Singh, ex-MLA M Prithviraj Singh, president Moirang Block Congress Committee MD Saukat Ali, Moirang Municipal Council Congress Councillors and party workers.
