ATSUM raises reservation of ST quota in JNIMS

Imphal, April 23 2013: All Tribal Studets' Union Manipur (ATSUM) said it begs to expose the matter for favour of kind consideration thereon to the effect by causing an upright action in the interest of the tribal people.

"The state government of Manipur despite receiving numerous complaints and reminders, turned a deaf ear in the matter of reservation of post for Scheduled Tribe (ST) in every institution.

The modus operandi the Government is so manipulative that no proper advertisement is given while recruiting different grades of post in the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

For instance, staff in grade (III) and (IV) have been recruited merely by walk-in-interview," ATSUM alleged.

It then pointed that as per the latest statistical data of the census, the roster quota for the tribal should be 38 percent and not the prevailing 31 percent.

It is well accounted and the true fact that there are backlog tribal quota vacancies that needs to be filled up as a special drive for ST.

ATSUM also stated that disparity in the statistical numbers of the employees from the highest to the lowest rung in different departments in JNIMS is against the existing 200 points of roster, For instance, out of the total number of 250 plus in grade (III) and (IV), only around 10 numbers are ST.

It is the same case in the list of contractual staffs of JNIMS since 2010, ATSUM further said.

In the subsequent recruitment of different grade of post in the institute, kind attention is drawn to strickly adhere to the existing 200 points of roster and initiate a special drive for ST to enable filling up of all the backlog post as a measure to check and balance to the already existing social divide in this multi-cultural social fabric of Manipur, ATSUM added.

"We do not present any political party or organization.

Nontheless, as atribal, the ATSUM begs to submit our considered opinion for your kindf consideration and action.

We look forward to have frequent meeting in our endeavour to bring forth peace and inclusive development in Manipur," ATSUM stated.
