Imphal, December 22 2020:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has called on people of all communities to unite and preserve their identity and culture.
The MP was being felicitated at the Tispari Durga Mandir Community Hall, Kanglatongbi when he made the call.
Speaking at the event organised by Manipur Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA) as chief guest, Leishemba pointed out that it is duty of the communities who are residing in the State to protect and promote unity and Manipur's identity.
The Manipuri Gorkha community have contributed much in the development of the State and they are one of the oldest communities.
They are not outsiders.
They have been living here since the time of Maharaj Bodhachandra, Maharani Ishori and Niranjan Subedar, he said, encouraging the Gorkhalis to preserve their culture.
Leishemba said that the Gorkhalis should feel proud of being Manipuris and live and die for Manipur.
It is duty of all communities to protect the State, he added.
Wishing for peace and harmony among all communities, Leishemba also appealed them (all communities) not to bring in illegal migrants in the State.
He informed that efforts are on to install a statue of Subedar Niranjan.
