WAD decries police action

Imphal, June 22 2011: Women Action for Development (WAD) has strongly condemned the combined team of personnel of Yairipok police station and Thoubal police station for firing of tear gas shells and mock bombs which resulted to the injury of five women at Yairipok Singda on June 19 .

The women were protesting the visit of MLA K Meghachandra who according to them has failed to deliver PDS items and MGNREGS job cards to the villagers through concerned Pradhans and Ward Members.

Demanding for setting up of a proper mechanism to streamline PDS and MGNREGS activities, WAD also urged the Government to provide medical and financial assistance to the women injured in the incident.
