Kids rescued, brought back

Imphal, February 22 2016:
A team of District Child Protection Unit of Senapati and Ukhrul rescued twenty nine kids from Shillong on February 21 and brought them back to Imphal on February 22 .
All the children are below 18 years of age with some as young as 6/7 years, said the District Child Protection Officer of Ukhrul district, Pabitra Thingbaijam.
The rescued children include 21 from Ukhrul, five from Senapati, two from Chandel and one from Imphal East.
They were all placed in unregistered/unrecognised children home at Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya which is against the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 (JJ Act).
All the children have been produced before their respective Child Welfare Committees and have undergone all the due procedures/formalities for restoration to their parents/legal guardians.
All the children have been sent home except for 1/2 children whose legal guardians are yet to turn up.
They are being kept at Punya Yaiphakol Children Home, Thangmeiband.
