Need for self reliance and rejuvenating farm economy deliberated

A one day farmer's training programme on the theme 'Rejuvenate Farm Economy and Self Reliance' was held at Yaingangpokpi Village Community Hall today.
The training programme was jointly organised by United Committee Manipur and Apunba Emoinu Thouni Lup, said a press release by UCM.
H Nimai, pradhan of Tellou Chana Seijang Gram Panchayat, Joychandra Konthoujam, president of UCM and Th Itochoubi, chairman of YVC attended the programme as the presidium members.
Plant Pathologist, Tayenjam Dipu, T Sanahanbi, Msc Soil Sciences and Dr Th Ritamadhuri, Ayurvedic physician were the resource persons of today's training programme, continued the press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam said that the training programme has been conducted in association with the Agriculture Department with an aim to improve the economy which has been affected badly by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stressed on the need to produce sufficient quantities of agricultural products so that the State becomes a self reliant State and appealed to all farmers to implement the methods suggested by the experts in the fields for better productivity.
Stating that one needs to identify the loopholes for the low agricultural productivity in the State which is the major cause for dependence to other States for food, he requested the farmers to see and modify the existing methods wherever necessary.
He continued that the farmers can seek help from Agriculture and other allied departments and can also contact them for any form of assistance.
Lastly he appealed to the farmers to strive relentlessly to make Manipur a self reliant State.
Dr Th Ritamadhuri explained about the various precautionary measures against COVID-19 and the importance of AYUSH medicines to boost one's immune system and to stay healthy.
As a part of the programme, urea fertilizers, banana plant saplings and AYUSH medicines were distributed to the participants of the training programme.
