Imphal, August 21 2012:
The week-long youth cultural integration festival at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel was concluded today with titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba as chief guest of the closing function.
Speaking at the function, Sanajaoba underscored the need for each and every Manipuri, particular youngsters to have thorough knowledge about Manipur.
Sense of belongingness and spirit of patriotism would be heightened greatly when youngsters understand thoroughly the history, topography, ethnic fabric, culture, languages and traditions of Manipur.
It also strengthen the bond of fraternity amongst different ethnic groups of the State.
Only then, the real picture of the integrity of Manipur would become clear, Leishemba stated.
Observing that youth festival is one of the platform for imparting knowledge about their home State, Sanajaoba expressed his desire to organise similar festivals in all the districts of Manipur.
It was not long ago when people of hills and valley used to maintain friendship known as Itao shanaba among males and Ita shanaba among females.
This bond of friendship was so fast that they never hesitated to share anything they possessed and neither party was ever reluctant to help the other party when any help was needed.
Nowadays, this sacred bond of friendship seems to be vanishing despite the much better means of communication available today.
Whereas physical distance has been much reduced on account of the improved transport and communication facilities, a gap of distrust seemed to have cropped up between the hills and valley.
Now, a man from valley feel insecure to go alone to the hills.
This is not a healthy sign for the integrity of Manipur, the titular king stated.
The youth festival was organised by the Bharat Sevak Samaj, Manipur State Branch under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Retired Director, Adult Education O Yaima and founder Member of the Bharat Sevak Samaj, Manipur Branch Om Prakash Sekhawat were also present at the closing function as president and guest of honour respectively.
Altogether 82 youngsters coming from different districts of Manipur took part in the festival.
