Scheduled Tribe students flay State Govt

Scheduled Tribe students of the State have expressed their reservations over State Government's alleged callous attitude in the release of Post Matric Scolarship amount for the academic year 2011-12 and listing of beneficiary list for Rural Shelter Scheme.
Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today, representatives of Federation of All Tribal Youth Clubs, Manipur alleged that the State Government had turned a blind eye to these issues although the federation had already submitted memorandums to Tribal Development and Home Ministers in this regard.
The federation had also urged the Government to revoke the diversion of fund to Imphal Airport expansion, the representatives said.
However, no positive action has been initiated by the State Government so far, they added.
Maintaining that the Central Government is giving thrust to the welfare schemes of STs amd backward classes, they alleged that the State Government is however ignoring the plights of the weaker and backward sections of the society.
The federation also demanded for handing over of the post of Director of Tribal Development Department to a competent tribal.
The federation representatives also cautioned that they would initiate democratic agitation if the State Government continues to remain silent on the issue.
