Imphal, February 21 2017:
Fearing humiliating defeat in the ensuing State Assembly election, BJP has started harassing and torturing voters using cadres of a militant group, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) spokesman Kh Joykisan.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here yesterday, Joykisan alleged that around 30 armed cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) came to Namkaolong Part III, called out villagers and threatened them to vote for BJP candidate Adim Pamei.
The ZUF cadres led by self styled finance secretary Gaichampou Pamei alias Benjamin physically assaulted four civilians, Joykisan conveyed.
According to the MPCC spokesman, the injured civilians are Namkaolong Part III unit Congress Committee president Akham Gonmei, secretary Meitiandaipou Phaomei, joint secretary Machunsin Dangmei and village court secretary Kondum Gonmei.
Congress would not tolerate such excesses committed by BJP in cahoots with armed militants.
Congress party would not back down even though BJP is using armed militants, Joykisan said.
In addition to their nexus with NSCN-IM, BJP has started using ZUF.
BJP exposed its nexus with NSCN-IM by fielding an elder brother of NSCN-IM's commander in chief in Chingai AC, Joykisan continued.
He then urged the army, Central paramilitary forces and other authorities present in Khoupum area to intervene and check the violent activities unleashed by ZUF.
