Imphal, September 20 2012: President of lndia Pranab Mukherjee will flag off the 1st North East lndia on top of the world (Mt.

Everest) expedition from Rastrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on March 20, 2013 at 1200 Hours.

Manipur Chief Minister O lbobi Singh is the Chief Patron of the expedition and Chief Secretary DS Poonia, the Chef de-Mission.

The First North East lndia on top of the World (Mt.

Everest) Expedition is the first ever Mt.

Everest expedition comprising of team members entirely from the North East.

The expedition is funded by NEC, Shillong under the guidance of Planning Department, Government of Manipur and executed under the leadership and command of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) .

According to a statement issued by the expedition's PRO, the first Expedition comprising exclusively of mountaineers of North East lndia will also include Anshu Jamsenpa, the first lady from Arunachal Pradesh, who has scaled Mt.

Everest twice and attempting to create history for the third time.

Moreover, 15-year old N Chinkheinganba, on completion of the expedition will be the youngest to scale the world's highest peak.

Currently the participants are on a pre-Everest expedition to Mt.

Papsura Peak (6445 meter) of Himachal Himalaya.
