Special Court, NIA, Manipur, fixed July 6 as the day for examining the report of Heingang and Molcham police regarding the warrant of arrest which was issued by the Court against self styled chairman of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Lhunkonson Haokip on April 2, in connection with the arms missing case from 2nd Manipur Rifles Arms Kote.
Lhunkonson Haokip alias Soson alias SS Haokip (47) of Khangbarol village, Tengnoupal district was included as an accused in the supplementary charge sheet which was submitted before the Court on January 29 by NIA.
Lhunkonson Haokip is currently on the run from the law.
Today, during the hearing of the case, all the charge sheeted accused who are presently out on bail, appeared before the Court but the other accused individuals presently lodged inside Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa were not produced.
The arrest warrant issued against Lhunkonson Haokip was returned without execution from Heingang and Molcham PS and as such, the Court fixed July 6 for the examination of the police personnel of both police stations.
It may be mentioned that the missing of arms and ammunition from the 2nd MR arms kote came to light after P Manjit, CO of 2nd Manipur Rifles, lodged a written complaint before Imphal PS after assuming charge of Commandant on February 8 last year, stating that 56 9 mm pistols along with 50 magazines (out of 570 numbers of 9 mm pistol received from PHQs on September 11, 2014) were found missing.
After the investigation of the case was handed over to National Investigating Agency (NIA) on May 31 last year, NIA arrested 12 individuals including Saikul MLA and the KRA chief and was also able to recover 20 of the missing pistols.
NIA also submitted charge sheets against the accused individuals for their involvement in the case on September 27 last year and submitted supplementary charge sheets on January 29 for the trial of the case.
