Socialist Students Union of Manipur (SSUM) has threatened to impose social boycott on any political parties whose representatives fail to participate in the coming State level public meeting on crime against women and children in the State.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Naorem Tanoranjan, convenor of SSUM informed that an all political party and civil society organization meeting was held today for the second time under the aegis of SSUM, Proletarian Feminist Movement Manipur (PFMM) and Manipur Proletariat Democratic Union (MPDU) at Manipur Press Club demanding immediate arrest of Sekmai BJP MLA as well as those who are allegedly shielding the people involved in the Thanga rape case incident.
During the meeting, representatives of BSP, CPI (M), Congress and MPP were present but the ruling party BJP failed to attend the meeting for the second time despite being invited and served a reminder.
The meeting thoroughly discussed the increasing crimes against women and children in the State and the issues regarding the Thanga gang rape case and the alleged rape case of a women by the Sekmai BJP MLA, he said.
Many resolutions were passed in the meeting including the victim family members and representative of SSUM, MPDU and PFMM as well as.
the members of Manipuri Students Association, Delhi (MSAD) visiting the National capital and submitting a memorandum to the Prime Minister in the second week of June.
The meeting also unanimously agreed to support any agitation and protest in connection with crimes against women and children.
It further passed a resolution to organise a State level meeting with the representatives of the political party along with the people of tne State, he said.
Tanoranjan conveyed that it is very unfortunate some of the political parties failed to send their representatives to the meeting today and added that the organisers will consider the said political parties to be supporting the increasing number of crime against women and children.
If the political party fails to send their representative in the coming State level meeting, they would be socially boycotted, he added.
