College of Food Technology organises training / input distribution programme

In one of the significant off-campus activities of the College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University, Lamphelpat, Imphal, Dr Ng Joykumar Singh, Dean in-charge of the college led in conducting two successful training cum input distribution programmes at Sangaithel Village, Imphal West on April 19.The programmes namely, "Demonstration of Cotton Cultivation and Distribution of Inputs" under the sponsorship of ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, Regional Station, Coimbatore and "Inputs Distribution Programme" under the sponsorship of NEH Component of ICAR-Indian Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut, UP were organized at the Makha Leikai community hall, Sangaithel village, which is apparently the adopted satellite village of the college.
The programme was organized in association with the local club of the village, said a press release issued by the College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University.
Altogether, about 160 fanners and youths of the area participated in the said programme as beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event Lukram Leimahanbi Devi, Pradhan, Maklang Gram Panchayat, stressed on the dedicated involvement of the beneficiaries in such programmes so that the farmer and rural welfare schemes of the Government can be utilized efficiently to boost the rural income and livelihood, added the press release.
In his speech, Dr Ng Joykumar Singh deliberated on the purpose and objectives of adopting Sangaithel village as a satellite village of the college.
He stated that the university and the college aimed to transfer and develop various skills and knowhow of the different technologies developed at the college and university so that the villagers become self-sufficient and progressive in the near future.
This will also enable the farmers and villagers to increase their income for a better livelihood.
He further stated that once such a satellite village becomes self-sufficient, other nearby villages can replicate the development model for a collective development of the area and the state as a whole.
As part of the programme, cattle feed, poultry feed, piggery feed, cattle medicines and 250 live chicks were distributed among the beneficiaries of the village.
Sanjit, a beneficiary, appreciated the efforts made by the college in such programmes for the welfare and development of the villagers.
Another beneficiary, Ms Manitombi Devi of Sangaithel Awang Leikai expressed her desire to have more such programmes in the future so that a constructive network can be started between CAU and the villagers.
