Imphal, November 19 2017:
Lamphelpat is one of the most important wetlands in the State but with the huge quantity of garbage that has been dumped into it, even the fish caught from this wetland is most likely to pose health hazards, said Dr S Jugindro, Medical Superintendent, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.
Dr S Jugindro was speaking to mediapersons during a cleanliness drive on the way leading to Shija Hospitals organised by this hospital along with the Imphal Municipal Corporation and Lamphel Police.
The foul smell from the garbage could affect chests of people driving two-wheelers nearby, he said and added, the fact that plastic does not decompose for five hundred years makes
the matter worse.
Dr Jugindro cautioned that antibiotics cannot cure the resulting ailments.
He further suggested that people should dump their garbage properly with the State becoming a hot tourist spot and in view of the upcoming Sangai Festival.
