Kohima, September 19 2015 :
The Naga Students' Federation (NSF) expressed its disappointment over the decision of the Government of India for banning NSCN (K) for five years and also for putting a bounty upon the two leaders of NSCN (K) amounting to Rs 17 lakh in total.
According to the NSF, this is considered as a direct challenge to the Nagas' aspiration to live as a people.
In a representation to Nagaland Governor PB Acharya, the NSF said the Government of India cannot and should not impose such decisions against the people fighting for self-determination, if India is sincere towards the peace and prosperity of the country.
The imposition of ban and the declaration of such heinous policy are against the wishes and desire of the Naga people in general and the humanity at large, it added.
The missive further said the Federation failed to understand the logic of the Government of India's decisions when all the mass based civil organisation have been trying hard to impress for resumption of ceasefire.
"The Nagas have been yearning for peace and when a temporary peace is brought about through the collective efforts of the Naga people and the civil societies, the recent decision of Government of India will shatter the peaceful atmosphere and could breed more mistrust between India and the NSCN (K) in particular and the Nagas in general.
We would like to know the reason why the Government of India took this drastic steps when the Nagas are anticipating for a lasting settlement through the 'Framework Agreement' signed on August 3, 2015 at 7 RCR, New Delhi," the representation added.
"We therefore, appeal your esteemed office to kindly impress upon the Government of India to withdraw the two callous decisions as it could escalate further bloodshed" .
The NSF then sought for his immediate intervention to resolve the problem before it escalates beyond control.
"Your service rendered to the Naga society for a lasting peace will be remembered and acknowledged by all," it added.
