Imphal, January 19 2020:
Two farmers from the State who were honoured with Krishi Karman Awards, were felicitated at Manipur Press Club during an event organised by Manipur Farm today.
Yengkhom Bishwajit Singh of Kakching Panji Leikai and Thingbaijam Johny Chanu of Lamboikhul Awang Leikai (Imphal East) were awarded for producing the most amount of rice during the period of 2017-18 and for producing most number of peas, respectively.
The awards were handed over to them personally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion of the felicitation event, Manipur Farm advisor Meitankeishangbam Thoithoi opined that it will be very difficult to bring advancement in the agricultural sector without use of technology and machinery.
Improper levelling of the fields results in loss of crops during monsoon or rainy seasons, he explained, adding that all should laud Yengkhom Bishwajit and Thingbaijam Johny for clinching the awards.
There are many talented and hard-working farmers in Manipur.
If they also desire to win such awards, they must take help of technology and machinery, he added.
