Workshop starts at CSIR Lamphel

A two-day workshop cum exhibition programme on novel products based on ethnic materials and designs of North East has kick started at the premises of CSIR: North East Institute of Science and Technology Substation, Lamphelpat today.
Member of Parliament Dr T Meinya, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat Director Dr PG Rao and Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency MLA Radhabinod Koijam were the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the opening function of the workshop jointly organised by CSIR: North East Institute of Science and Technology, Jorhat and CSIR: Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai.
Speaking at the occasion, T Meinya said that Manipuri people possess creative mind and have the potential to carve out attractive designs.
He also mentioned that Manipur is a land of rich cultural heritage having civilization background and history of 2000 years and home to more than 33 ethnic groups.
Maintaining that there would not be no dearth of creative designs in Manipur, the MP said that searching for suitable market remains as a main challenge.
Radhabinod Koijam while speaking at the function said, artisans of Manipur are experts in cane, bamboo and other handicrafts.
Expressing concern over the prevailing volatile situation of the State, the Opposition leader exhorted the people of different communities of the State to live together in harmony.
Maintaining that the State is also facing the problem of unemployment like other parts of the country, Radhabinod Koijam pointed out that vocational training is must for self employment.
