Imphal, September 18 2015 :
Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency MP Thangso Baite has denied having ever suggested to create two Union Territories out of the existing State of Manipur in order to resolve the impasse which has been besieging the State.
Speaking to media persons at his Langol residence yesterday, Thangso Baite said that one journalist from the North East region called him up when he was in Delhi and asked his comment on the suggestion of creating two Union Territories out of Manipur.
"I categorically stated that I'm not in a position to give any comment on the proposal/suggestion.
I also told the particular journalist that the proposal/question is not appropriate at the moment", said the MP.
"It is rather disappointing that the particular reporter quoted my name and reported that I suggested creation of two Union Territories out of the existing State of Manipur to resolve the present imbroglio", he continued.
The MP maintained that he never talked about bifurcating Manipur in his entire life.
"It has been my consistent position that Manipur's territorial integrity should not be compromised under any circumstances and this was announced through media from time to tome", he asserted.
Clarifying that he has no authority to raise any proposal to the Centre about creation of two Union Territories, he pointed that there is the party and the party's high command who are better placed to comment on such issues.
An MP cannot make unsolicited or incoherent statements on issues concerning a State, he said.
Clarifying that he never suggested creation of two Union Territories out of Manipur, Thangso Baite appealed to everyone not to take in the misleading media report.
