Imphal, July 18 2022:
Loktak Development Authority (LDA) on Monday has instructed all concerned to remove Athaphum and hut or house constructed on Phumdi (home stay) within the premises of Loktak Lake excluding Champu Khangpok within a period of 15 days.
In a notification, LDA project director L Bhagaton Singh informed that amid the state government's endeavour to rejuvenate the ecological condition of the Loktak Lake and delist it from the Montreux Record, there has been exponential rise in the number of Athaphum, Houses (Home Stays) and Huts constructed on Phumdi, consequently putting the lake at serious risk and impacting the natural environment adversely.
Moreover, such homestays have also become a social issue as they are operated without proper regulations.
Thus, under Section 4, 19, 20 of the Manipur Loktak Lake (Protection) Act, 2006 read with Section 5 of the said Act, all Athaphum, hut or house on Phumdi (home stay) within the premises of Loktak Lake excluding Champu Khangpok shall be removed/dismantled by the individual, person, society, etc., concerned within period of 15 days from the date of publication of the Notice, the project director informed.
He also cautioned that in case any of party fails to comply with the notice, the Loktak Development Authority shall take necessary action for removal of such unauthorised structures without further notice to save the lake from further deterioration.
