Instructs officials for timely COVID-19 related assistance to labourers

Labour & Employment Minister Dr.Thokchom Radheshyam today chaired a review meeting with the officials of the Department of Labour & Employment to assess the preparedness and necessary arrangements undertaken to provide relief and assistance to the labourers in the State.
The meeting was held at his Office Chamber and was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Labour & Employment, Letkhogin Haokip, Under Secretary, Labour & Employment, Huidrom Sofia Devi, Deputy Labour Commissioner Karam Bono Singh and Labour Inspectors.
The officials apprised the Minister on the preparations being initiated by the department.

The Minister directed the officials to develop plans to enable COVID-19 related assistance to the labourers as prescribed in the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India Movement) Part (1) Businesses including MSMEs; Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (2) - Building and Construction Workers Welfare Fund allowed to be used to provide relief to workers.
He said that so far financial assistance of Rs 1000/- each has been disbursed to 41,114 Building and Other Construction workers from the CESS fund available with the Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board.
He also instructed the officials to identify workers/labourers in both the organised and un-organised sector so that timely assistance is extended to them.
On being apprised about the 20,188 migrant workers in the organised sector and some in unorganised sector in Manipur who are under the care of the authorities, the Minister said that those who have been left out must be identified soon to assure necessary relief assistance from the Government.
Dr.Th.Radheshyam recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special economic package of Rs.20 lakh crores that will serve as an important link in the 'AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' (Self Reliant India Campaign)' on his address to the Nation on 12.5.2020 .
The Minister asked all to contact the Department for issues pertaining to any grievances during this time of crisis of Covid-19 .
