Imphal, December 17 2012: The 30th Shumang Leela Ningtham Kumhei, organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC), has kick started at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen today.

Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, MLA RK Anand, and MSSLC Advisor L Tarapon were the chief guest, president and guest of honour at the opening function.

Regarding the festival, which would continue till December 30, MSSLC secretary Sh Hemanta said 13 groups would compete in this year's festival.

The shumang leela shows would begin from 2 pm daily, he added.

Cash prize with citation would be awarded to the best production, director, actor and actress etc.

Saying that all the competing plays are based on the history of Manipur, Hemanta expressed hope that the people would be able to gain knowledge regarding the history of Manipur from the festival.
