Imphal, August 16 2014 :
Visibly satisfied with the work progress of Dolaithabi project and Thoubal multipurpose project, Chief Minister O Ibobi, after making a field assessment, announced that both the projects are being targeted for completion by December 2015 .
Dolaithabi project was taken up in 1992 under IFCD at the junction of Imphal East and Senapati districts over Irilbung river.
The project is aimed at irrigating over 7,000 hectares of agricultural land.
The 66 metres high and 1074 metres long earth dam of Thoubal Multipurpose project is constructed over Thoubal river at Pheiyang/Maphou.
The project was taken up in 1980 with a vision to irrigate 1161 hectares and supply 45 MLD of domestic water to Imphal city and surrounding areas.
The project has three power generating units of 2.5 MW each.
As such, it has a power generation component of 7.5 MW.

After making a spot inspection of the two projects, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that most of the project components have been completed by 80 to 90 per cent.
The overall progress reports are satisfactory.
The IFCD Minister as well as concerned engineers are being consulted so that both the projects can be inaugurated and commissioned by December 2015 one after another, he stated.
IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip has been closely monitoring the work progress by visiting the work sites every now and then.
Efforts are on to complete e-tender process for laying of pipelines and drilling tunnels for the Thoubal Multipurpose Project's water supply component by September this year.
It is also being considered to invite one of the firms currently engaged in drilling tunnels for Jiribam-Tupul railway project for drilling tunnels of the water supply completed provided they are interested in the new assignment.
As almost all projects are brought from outside the State, frequent bandhs and blockades hampered work progress of both the projects.
Work progress is affected whenever there is any bandh whether it is in Nagaland or Manipur or Assam.
The problem is further compounded when the Centre does not release necessary fund in time.
The Chief Minister's inspection tour was accompanied by IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip and concerned engineers.
