The 9th Narrative Arts Festival organised by Theatre Centre Manipur will be held from August 22 to 31 at Lairenjam Awang Leikai community hall, informed Theatre Centre president Wareppa Naba during a news conference at its Singjamei Chingamakhong office today.
Informing that the weeklong theatre festival will commence from 1 pm everyday, Naba said the traditional narrative art form like Lairik Theeba (reading), Wari Leeba (story telling), Khongjom Parva and Pena Phamsak would be the main attractions of the event along with an exhibition on Goura Leela, Man-bhajan, Khullang Eshei and Khubak Eshei.
While Lairik Theeba would be participated by eight subject exponents, clustered into four groups, Wari Leeba will have six participants and four each in Khongjom Parva and Pena Phamshak, he detailed.
Stating that objective of organising such a festival is to preserve and promote traditional Manipuri art form, Naba said preservation and promotion of traditional art form has become a necessity to safe Manipur's cultural identity and traditional character.
The president also conveyed gratitude to the Department of Art and Culture for extending financial assistance towards organising the festival.
Theatre Centre vice president Ch Binod, secretary (Project) N Jadumani and executive member B JC Sharma were also present during the media briefing.
